vRealize Operations Manager 6.0 Installation

The following is an installation guide for vROps 6.0. First download the appliance from VMware’s portal and import it into vCentre. Add the required name and choose the cluster and folder for the appliance

Choose the size of the deployment, in this example I have picked “Small” which is recommended for environment with under 2000 VMs. Choose the datastore where you want to store it and choose the correct network

Add your IP details and finish

Once complete power up the appliance and browse to the IP address - select “New Installation”

Set the admin password

Install certificate here or choose to use the default, its recommended to use your own certificates here. I have another blog on how to request and install an internally signed certificate here

Add the cluster node name and a NTP server

Once complete you will be directed to the admin page. Login as admin and you will see the cluster node offline. Choose to “Start vRealize Operations Manager”

Choose “New Environment” and accept the license agreement. It is possible to import configuration from an earlier version into this one. Add the license key and finish

You will now see the cluster node online

Log into the vROps page as admin. From the home page go to configuration - LDAP Import Sources. Here add your LDAP lookup details to be able to use users / groups from AD. Make sure the account has permissions over AD. Advanced setting can be setup such as Base DN, AD server and Auto Sync, check these are correct and select “Test”. If the test is successful continue

You should now see the LDAP source.

To add a admin group select “Access Control”. Choose to import from your LDAP source and search for your Active Directory group. In the example the groups called “VMware Admins”. Then select the role

Now you need to add the vCentre you want to manage. From the same configuration page select “Solutions” and choose the VMware vSphere solution - configure. Give the adapter a display name and add your vCentre details in with the relevent service account details. Make sure you test connection and it connects fine.

Select Next and choose define the monitoring goals. In this example it is the default but tailor it how you please

Finish and you will see the adapter start collecting details. Thats it for the initial setup, its a big product but this will get you up and running and collecting vCentre data.
